The Big Problem
An astonishing 1/3 of food produced worldwide doesn't make it to our plates.
The 4.4 million tonnes of avoidable food waste generated in the UK alone every year takes a huge amount of energy in its production, storage and transportation. To save that energy would save 19m tonnes of greenhouse gases over its lifetime: equivalent to taking one in four cars off UK roads.
4.4 million tonnes of avoidable food waste - enough to fill 8,800 Olympic sized swimming pools.
